When they leave, the place is a mess. The father tries to rebuild his home as best he can. Once he almost has the men from the oil company return, this time to stay.

Time and place: France in the 19th century.
Main characters: The main characters are two, a married couple. Their family name is Loisel and the wife´s name is Mathilde. Mathilde suffered a lot because she wasn´t born in a rich family and because she was married to Mr. Loisel, who was poor. Another character is Mrs. Forestier, Mathilde´s school friend. She is rich.
Conclusion: The necklace Mathilde borrowed and the one she bought were not at all the same. Things are not always as good as they seem to be.
Critique: I think Mathilde should have told her friend that she had lost the necklace from the start. Then she wouldn´t have had to work so hard.

Time and Place: It occurs in a perfume store who knows when.

Summary: It tells the story of a man who works in a sewage surrounded by excrements and foul odours. One day he decides to go to a perfume shop in his neighbourhood and once hit by the smell of the fragrances he becomes unconscious and remains so until his brother arrives with a little box full of excrements and makes him smell them, upon which he revives. Amigos / Friends
Time and Place: The story occurs in times past, first in a dessert and then in an oasis.
Personajes: dos amigos que viajan juntos.
Characters: Two friends who are travelling together.
Summary: Two friends who atre travelling together in the desert fight. One writes in the sand that his friend has slapped him in the face. They reach an oasis where they decide to bathe and the one who wrote in the sand almost drowns but is saved by the other. Then he writes on a stone that his best friend has saved his life. He explains that when something is important it must be written where it can´t be erased and when it is not important it should be written where the very wind can delete it. The action can be divided into three parts: in the first part the friends have a fight and one writes about this on the sand; in the second part they reach the oasis and one saves the other, who now writes on a stone and in the third part the writer explains what he has written.
Conclusion: It teaches us that friendship is above everything.
Critique: Personally I like the story. It shows that you have to give friends a second chance.

Author: The author is anonymous. But we know this is a Sufi tale. What does that mean? Sufism is the inner or esoteric dimension of Islam. It tries to turn the heart away from all else but God. People who practice sufism may be called sufis, but sometimes this term is reserved for those who have achieved the goals of sufism. Practitioners of sufism are also called dervishes. In the picture above they meditate dancing.

Constanza Caminero´s Story Report / Ficha de un cuento de Constanza Caminero

How much land does a man need?

Where and when does the story take place? This story takes place in a small village where the protagonist is living when the story starts and in nearer or further places he goes to as the story unfolds. As for time, we could set the story in a period when one mainly lived from agriculture and animal husbandry.
The main characters are:
Pahom: He is the protagonist of the story, a man who has worked hard and honestly for his family and who originally had no lands of his own, which is why he tries to own more and more.
The Bashkirs: a Russian ethnic group, similar to the Turks. Look at the Bashkir couple in the painting below.
Pahom´s servant, who accompanies him on his trip to Bashkir territory.

Synopsis: Pahom is a farmer who has worked all his life for his family on the lands of other people. This is what leads him to ambition owning his own lands, which he manages to do at a great effort. His lands make him prosper and he is very pleased and happy but nevertheless risks what he has to buy more lands, which he again manages to do, again improving his financial situation. Later someone tells him that the Bashkirs exchange lands for a few trifling gifts. Pahom immediately travels to Bashkir territory and the head of the Bashkirs makes a proposal: Pahom can have all the land he can cross on foot during one day. But Pahom´s ambition is his undoing, because he dies in his effort to gain as much land as possible. He is buried by his servant in only six feet of land, which is all he now needs.
Conclusion: As the Spanish saying goes, “Avarice breaks the sack.”
Personal opinion: The main subject of this story is ambition. In my opinion this is something that is present in today´s society, where people always try to own more and more. And I believe that it perfectly expresses the consequences this often has. I believe that the story is a good critique of this attitude and that it reflects a social reality.
