The Selfish Giant / El Gigante Egoista

Where and when does the story happen?
The story takes place in a wide and beautiful garden, with loveley trees, shrubs and flowers and soft green lawn. It is a timeless story.
¿Dónde y cuando tiene lugar la historia?
El cuento tiene lugar en un jardín amplio y hermoso, con árboles y arbustos de flores y cubierto de césped verde y suave. El cuento es atemporal.
The characters are:
- The giant: he was selfish and badtempered but he turned into a sensitive and nice person, kind to the children who visited his garden. The giant is the main character of this story.
- The children: when school was over, they would run to play in the garden of the giant.
- The favorite child of the giant: he was the smallest of all the children and was preferred by the giant because he was his first friend.
Los personajes son:
-El gigante: egoista y malhumorado se convierte en sensible y simpática, bueno con los niños que iban a su jardín. El gigante es el personaje principal de este cuento.
- Los niños: al salir del colegio se iban a jugar al jardín del gigante.
- El niño preferido del gigante: era el niño más pequeño de todos y el preferido del gigante porque fue su primer amigo,
Main topic:
The main topic of this story is the selfishness of people who think of their own comfort.
Tema principal:
El tema principal de esta historia es el egoismo de las personas que sólo piensan en su comodidad.
Summary: The action can be divided into 4 parts.
- When the story begins the children play in the garden of the giant while he is away on a visit to his friend, the ogre of Cornwall.
- The second part is when the giant returns and forbids the children to enter his garden. For this reason, Spring never returns to the giant´s garden.
- In the third part of the story one day the children enter the giant´s garden and the spring comes with them. The giant allows the children to stay and makes friends with them, especially with the smallest of them, whom he helps climb a tree.
- In the fourth part, many years have passed and the giant is very old. It is winter, but one of the trees in his garden is in bloom. The giant goes to see what is happening and finds his favorite child is there. The child invites the giant to play in his own garden, which is called Paradise.
Resumen: La acción podemos dividirla en cuatro partes.
- Cuando la historia comienza los niños juegan en el jardín del gigante mientras éste está de visita en casa de su amigo el ogro de Cornualles.
- En la segunda parte el gigante vielve a su casa y prohibe la entrada a su jardín y por esta razón la primavera nunca más vuelve a su jardín.
- La tercera parte ocurre cuando todos los niños se cuelan por una rendija en el jardín del gigante y vuelve con ellos la primavera al jardín y el gigante se hace amigo de los niños, sobre todo del más pequeño, al que ayuda a subir a un arbol.
- Cuando ocurre la cuarta parte, muchos años han pasado y el gigante es muy viejo. Es invierno pero uno de los árboles del jardín está en flor y el gigante va a ver que está pasando. Encuentra al más pequeño de los niños allí, y éste invita al gigante a jugar en su jardín, que se llama Paraiso.



Critique: The story seems to me to be very nice and all people have feelings deep inside and feel the instinct to help others. The end seems to me sad but nice.
Crítica: a mi me ha parecido muy bonito y que todas las personas en el fondo tienen sentimientos y un instinto de ayudar a los demás. El final me ha parecido triste pero bonito.
